re: tjw dank "It works. So does IV Relenza. It would be silly to ignore it. Real world experience and studies in animals and humans trump molecular models etc. If molecular models were all that were needed we would not have phase 1, 2 and 3 clinical studies."
Dank
No one said to ignor it.
If you a balance view, you need to point out the statement made goes against fundamental laws of chemistry and physics. This is like making a statement that the salt in normal saline (0.9% NaCl solution)precipitates after it stands around for 1 and a half hours.
How can a group of researchers make a claim that the drug Relenza disassociate from the virus after 1 and a bit hours when it was engineered to lock the enzyme up permanently. If this is the case, you really don't have a product.
I can under that Tamiflu made disassociate as it has to bent (rearranged itself), so it is never going to be stable, any trigger may revert Tamiflu back to its original shape, much like a compressed spring, it will revert back to its non compress form.
If Relenza don't lock up the enzyme permanently, then what hope has LANI/FLUNET as they are dimers of Relenza.
No one said that phase 1, 2 and 3 clinical studies are unnecessary. Any new product, whether it is car or a drug or a piece of software requires rigour in challenge testing, lets not confuse testing with design.
