The umms and ahhs were reasonably under control but he repeatedly moved his head away from the microphone to look behind him at the big screen instead of watching the laptop screen in front of him. Not only was it frustrating to watch an amatuerish presentation but more importantly you could barely hear what he was saying when he moved his head towards the big screen.

I am not condemning him as I assume he was thrown in at the deep end with little or no experience of presenting at forums such as RRS. It was however an opportunity lost to really connect with the audience. Having done a bit of it myself at accounting conferences I know how easy it is to make mistakes so you need to practise and be thoroughly prepared.

No lasting damage done as I suspect the love affair with PLS will forgive small sins like this.

I wish I was 'relatively young'
I don't expect all my staff to be experts so long as they a competent to do the job I hired them for. The man was softly spoken but clearly someone you could rely on. Bugger the presentation skills.
There are some people who fear public speaking more than death itself. Geologists don't generally go looking for crowds to speak too. I'll bet nobody told him he needed to speak to the microphone- he would have had no idea he wasn't heard in those instances but it was not too bad and he got the message across.

NOBODY is saying where the top brass are ????? what's happening? nobody presents better than Mr Biddle too
