with trading being completely computerised and electronic, i don't see any reason at all why the transfer of ownership cannot take place on the same day the shares are bought/sold
no one has ever been able to explain why it takes 3 days, i cannot see any reason other than 'thats how it is' essentially the paperwork could be done on the same day.
