My my jim. You are an angry one!

It's not that hard to prosecute an argument without name calling now is it?

Can't see why you think I hate Australia. Nothing could be further from the truth. What does upset me is that so many people seem so unsympathetic to the vast majority of legitimate asylum seekers currently coming to our shores as a result largely of our own activities in the ME.

The idea that both parties are falling over themselves to be as inhumane as possible as a way deterring further asylum seekers and subjecting them to the kind of treatment that we ourselves would find unthinkable were it applied to us and that many here find this acceptable is just depressing.

Let's be clear. In the past we were a much more caring society. My own parents came here as refugees back in 1938 and were accepted with open arms. That's all I'm asking here. That people seeking asylum be treated with decency. That their claims be rapidly evaluated. If they are not legitimate then, by all means send them back but if they are, then we have a responsibility towards them and need to deal with that in appropriate and humane manner.
