I think its a bit of an overkill although the point that such a term is used in a general way in some workplaces is probably correct. I have done it myself in the past where I addressed my team of male and female sub-managers and ended it it with “ Ok guys lets get out there and show them what we can do"

Its just a legacy of how language has been used in the past. The tendency is to use the
masculine tense rather than being more precise.

Another big example of the use of masculine tense is the famous words by Astronaut Neil Armstrong during the first moon landing. He said "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.

We are gradually changing this and endeavour to be more specific and accurate in our language when addressing people, particularly in the workplace.

Today, I would not address a team of male and female managers etc as “guys” but would rather say “ Ok team, lets get out out there and show them what we can do."

Mind you in terms of being more inclusive and not offending anyone I don’t think the habit of occasionally using the masculine tense is a big deal. There is usually no intent to offend. There are far greater discriminatory issues that would deserve greater focus
imo. Over time people will get used to being more accurate in the use of language and it will resolve itself. There is no problem however in someone encouraging more appropriate use of language. Older people in particular will find old language habits more difficult to change.

Just my opinions.

TEAM, OMG what a sexist derogatory racist remark is that. I am a sensitive new age obsequiously humble person. I live an exemplary life, friends to all hating none, I am a door mat for all and sundry, to be called part of a "Team", tells me that I am just like all the rest of you, a bigoted self centered materialistic person. Shame on you Eagles, you have destroyed all my illusions of what is good decent and fair in this horrid world.
