Update - just heard from a mate in a share registry and apparently the transfer affects ownership not the registration, its also up to the buyer to put the transfer through so, assuming theres no tax reason why you couldn't do this then this might allow you to get your capital loss on these. Only issue is ensuring its an arms length transaction so probably not a good idea to sell to your partner, Mum etc.
