I think we have had this discussion before, but to your point.. I have tested the low band-with call stuff (true, it was a while back and I haven't in Zipt 2.12 or whatever we are up to).

At the time it was supposed to be the bees nees, it worked, but was very average. This was over a high latency connection.. I can only imagine how awful it would be on an actual satellite connection.

My view is that the market probably does care.. because when they used to actually report things (they have pretty much stopped now) the statistics were horrific. Whilst downloads were increasing, that was about it. People were using it less over time.

My issue and scepticism regarding working on a satellite connection is two-fold.

    a) track record, so far its 99% promise 1% delivery
    b) if you want a high quality call service over a low bandwidth high latency connection, you need a whole lot more than a white-labelled calling app, which is itself a white-labelled voip dialer.

The whole premise has shifted and the story doesn't add up to me. Low bandwith is what they specialise in, yet people wont even use that on non-satellite services..

If SDA really want the most effective communication service to offer their customers, they would surely develop and implement something which has relies on and benefits from proper QOS inside all parts of the network they manage. Routing of the voice traffic and termination to whatever voice bridge as soon as it hits terra-firma. I understand that the majority of the latency is due to distance.. but it all ads up and I just can't see ZIP cutting the mustard.
