I don't think Howard has a huge ego. Surely that was Keating. As it was Hawke. Both started with sincerity or appeared to at least but fell victim to their their own appeal.
Howard may yet do the same.
I think the greater danger is that he becomes out of touch with the future of this country which is the youth.
A 45 to 50 year old Prime Minister has it's appeal but there is something about Peter that just won't let it happen.
For what ever reason we prefer the older statesman type and this is wherte Howard will hold sway until he retires or totally allienates himeself from the ever growing young voters.
