OH OK so there is logic to suspecting that a coalition governments aim is to privatise medicare. How will it save everyone a fortune? Medicare is compulsory insurance scheme funded by the taxpayer intended to enable access to GPs by all Australians without depending on whether one has the money at the time they need treatment.
Unfortunately part of the system has been privatised by stealth because many patients like myself are required to pay a $20 excess like I do each time I visit the doctor. As these out of pocket expenses go up so the privatised component increases and the purpose of medicare as universal health insurance for all Australians is rendered
ineffective.
Full privatisation would mean that someone wants to make a profit as the first priority rather than provide accessible healthcare to all under a regulated system controlled by government.
