Without claiming to be an expert, my understanding is that:

- there is no minimum number of top up shares specified in the Offer document, so the answer (although a nonsense) is one share;

- the maximum number of top up shares that you can apply for is 1471 ($5000 worth) UNLESS your entitlement for new shares exceeds $25000. If this is the case, you can apply for 20% of your entitlement amount;

- using your example, 500 new shares under the entitlement offer equates to $1700, so the maximum that you could apply for would be 1471 top up shares ($5000);

- regardless of what you apply for (and pay for), your application may be scaled back, in which case you obviously receive a refund for any top up shares paid for but not allocated.
