I don't think a tripling in price and a dramatic reduction in promised deliverables is a slight change in direction! It looks more like being totally out of their depth. It is nothing like what they were first talking about. July of last year it was AU$149 with 45 minutes flying time; the specs are reducing all the time. That trend is why I quote from old articles, based on past experience I don't see why people take what is quoted now as being definitely achievable. They've continually over promised and under delivered so far.
The ROAM-e was supposed to be out last Christmas! Not Xmas 2016.
You say that the current ROAM-e does what it is intended to do. I can't see that we know anymore what it is, or was, intended to do. To me, it seems as if they've reached a wall as to how far they can get with the technology at the moment, called that the product and are rushing it into production to try to save some face and start a revenue stream. If that's the case I think it will seriously backfire upon them.
