Justis, I’m surprised you would say such a thing. After all the polls had Labor very close and in front even before the medicare scare campaign started and when it did begin many here reckoned that was the end of Bill Shorten and Labor. You were all celebrating.

Now some here try to claim differently. The reality is Labor believes the coalition ideologically does not want to retain medicare and prefers a user pay system for health care. Thats why it committed to freeze the medicare rebate for 6 years resulting in doctors having an excuse to justify charging more.

The scare campaign is no different to the coalition claiming the wheels would fall off home values under Labor’s negative gearing changes and the lie that Labor would open the floodgates to asylum seekers.

Both parties made claims and both parties issued denials and the public adjudicated as to whom they believed.

My doctor wants his fee up front and each consultation the patient loses an extra $20 and the AMA has warned that doctors could charge even more. Malcolm Turnbull has said that Doctors fees would not go up in the future and I wonder whether that will prove to be true or not. I very much doubt it.
