Christmas Island should have been returned to Indonesia years ago. All it is is a refugee camp and a great big pile of old bird crap. It has no value now, all it ever did was provide fertilizer but now we have petrochemical plants to do that. Give each household $1,000,000 and let them settle in Darwin, and shut the place down. One-off cost write-off and money well spent.
