Heard about this on the radio earlier but didn't pay a lot of attention to it. So I've just done some reading and it seems the main reason for this shut down is the culling of dogs considered not fast enough to race, with a little side of live baiting concerns.

Sounds bad, but whats that, between 4000 and 6000 dogs a year are culled. Still sounds bad .... until you look at what numbers of unwanted pets killed every year. All of a sudden the number of greyhounds killed is tiny, almost insignificant.

That's right, more than 250,000 EACH YEAR. So why is Baird killing the greyhound industry again?
