Interesting that you see the shootings as a market factor - they have one (or more) mass shooting every day in the USA but they don't all make the same media noise. I'm not so sure the market is strongly influenced by these sad incidents.
Granted this was particularly unusual given the targeting of Police, but I think back to the US mass shooting that happened in a DAY CARE CENTRE just 1-2 years ago when a number of young kids were killed... And I think if a mass shooting of young kids doesn't motivate the gun lobby/culture to change then it will always be this way.
