    Ah yes, nostalgia

    One of the highlights I remember from about 50+ years ago was the weekly visit from the garbos.
    These guys were amazing.
    One driver, one guy standing in the muck in an open truck and two runners, one for each side of the road.
    The driver would drive slowly; the runners would grab a can (made of steel in those days), flip the lid, then run to the truck and throw it up to the guy standing in the muck. The guy would catch it, empty it in one motion, then throw it back down again. He'd then turn and catch the can from the bloke working the other side of the street, and so they would go.
    It had all the grace and timing of gymnastics.
    Nowadays would be illegal for OH&S reasons, too noisy, too smelly, and the punters would complain about the damaged bins and lids.
    For a 5 year old kid watching from his window, they were as close to gods as I could imagine
