    HC, you can tell your girlfriend the reason nobody has tried it before is because coals are almost never capable of flowing high rates of water from below approx. 1000m depth due to the inability of the cleats to stay open.

    That is the major reason people in the industry are sceptical. They still don't believe the water is coming from a conventional water-saturated CSG system, and won't until STX get the gas flows to prove it.

    I don't actually have a problem with them trialling a beam pump for the first well. It was a brand new play and it was worth trying the simplest solution first to see if it worked. I do agree though that once they realised what they were dealing with in terms of water, they should have gone straight for a five-well pilot with large pumps - as I said at the time.
