re: project economics? To my mind Stanwell really should be the subject of a Four Corners investigation. The project never really stacked up due to the large number of unknowns and ridiculously little work that had been done in proving up the technology. However the time for blatant pork barrelling for a Fed election campaign was too much to resist (pity about what it's cost taxpayers but hey, we've got deep pockets and the Govt very long arms).
Personally I hope the project sinks and some lessons are learned - governments need to do their homework (or rather, listen to department's concerns about such projects) and pork barrel a whole lot less.
The project that should probably get under way, and looking for much less assistance to do so is Mag International's project. The technology is fully proven. But it's in regional South Australia - much fewer voters there - so Johnies anti-federalist Govt. doesn't give a toss. (National nuclear waste dumps and detention centres excepted, just the thing for SA).
