I'm not sure the explanation about Mitsubishi shares being used for shorting is correct. If you are a substantial holder (5%+) and your stock is lent out to shorters, your actual share holding/ownership is not decreased. The borrower has a legal liability to buy back the stock at some stage and give the stock back to the lender.
Happy to be proven wrong.
