Given its location, a better (shorter) route by road would be out through Sikasso to Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Going through Bamako to Kayes, then crossing the Senegal border all the way to Dakar would IMO be quite a bit more expensive. Quite a bit of incoming freight on this route as well, so back-loading opportunities might present themselves.
