if you read between the lines Nathan said they were to make sure that they have enough supply for the local and daigou markets. I think they were trying to eliminate the grey market in the beginning but now senior management is starting to recognise and acknowledge them. They had their flagship store on Tmall - Taobao which didn't sell very well. At the end of the day they had to rely on daigous who our ultimate customers are relying on.

I thought after companies like Swisse, A2m, woolworths open up their official online stores in China Daigou's gonna disappear but the food safety scandal are still spiralling out of control in China. Reportedly dodgy businesses are laundering goods into places like HK then ship them back to make them look like imported and clean. Some say 60% of the goods in HK are counterfeit. Instead the daigous just managed to increase their market share. People say even Kevin Rudd's daughter is a daigou and she's making 10 grand a month.

I guess we just have live with the fact that daigou is the most preferred channel by our customers in China.
