What you say is all very interesting and EV's will lead to an increase in the large drop off in gas station numbers AND gas used over the next few years. However, the huge drop off in gas station numbers since 1970 is largely due to the advent of the huge modern multi pump stations causing the old fashioned 2 or 3 pump stations to become uneconomic. Gas usage for most of that time was increasing although recently more efficient cars may have changed that.
