Having a a degree in biotechnology will be very helpful in evaluating biotechs. Have you had a look at RAP? What do you think? Seems that they will have a global monopoly for the instant diagnosis of respiratory disease. The results seem stunning, e.g. "92%-100% accuracy for distinguishing adult patients with COPD, asthma and pneumonia from subjects with no discernible respiratory disease." Also, only six months to commercialisation.
Agree about deep knowledge. Many HC punters claim to have done deep research into their beloved biotechs, but they often lack the expertise, not to mention the objectivity. In addition to deep knowledge about the science, there needs to be deep knowledge about the industry, i.e. the business of big pharma, including their motivations, which might actually be to avoid innovation for various reasons.

Didn't quite get your point about OPT and VLA. Are they examples of stocks that have no knowledgeable investors, and so should be avoided? I thought VLA's results seemed good, last time I looked.
