While we're all spellbound waiting for the latest from A2MC, here's a story from India, one of the world's biggest dairy consumers, about the growing official campaign there to encourage preservation of the native ("desi") humpbacked cows which are mostly A2. It's becoming a big political issue.

The A2 cows are actually going to be DNA-tested and tagged. The official quoted in the story is not quite correct in saying desi cows are all A2 and Jersey or Holstein cows are not, although by and large it's true. The campaign to preserve desi cows and prevent their continued cross-breeding with Holstein and Jersey is spreading all across India, partly motivated by nationalism, but also very strongly backed by Indian medical scientists who are warning of the health risks of A1 milk. The A2 milk from desi cows is said to be better tasting and more nutritious than milk from European breeds, even those that are A2.

It's another example of how the A1/A2 issue is becoming big news way beyond our shores.
