The Prime Minister is playing a dangerous game in his politically driven undermining of the states. Water shortages are now too acute for time wasting or the blame game.

Four years ago the Senate urban water inquiry set out a suite of reforms that needed COAG cooperation including targets for effluent and stormwater reuse, small scale treatment works, percapita water consumption reductions, national standards and reform of water utility pricing to fund the capital works needed to save water.

The Government did adopt its recommendation to set up the National Water Initiative but has dont little else to address the huge problems of urban water shortages that now threaten cities in every state.
