That seems to be the right approach.
As far as I remember the level of lake eyre is -39' and if filled to that level would create a permanent inland sea which in turn would produce a great amount of evaporation resulting in clouds and rain in the nearby areas.
All positive to me but there will be an outcry from some quarters I'm sure.
Cetainly would create some jobs for those that live in the area
