The developer mentality reminds me of the slumlords of the early industrial revolution and the feudal landlords before them. They will cram as many slaves into their repulsive ghettoes as they can while they live on their leafy estates on the hill.
The populate or perish economic pseudo-rationale is a neverending upward noxious spiral leading to depletion of environmental resources, social breakdown, pollution and disease. It may well prove be the primary cause of the downfall of our civilisation, as it has been for so many civilisations throughout history.
