The following info on the date of record and payment etc is the same for the capital return as for the special dividend of 1/4 cent stated below as going ex-div today 25 Oct with the "record date" as 31 Oct.

The question posed by some is that as the transaction date is 25 Oct, the settlement date is T+3 which is Monday 30 Oct, then why isn't one "recorded" as being "on the books" (ie a shareholder) by the "record" date of 31 October?

Why indeed?

This isn't an issue for me re AUX as I am an existing shareholder who purchased well before today and who will continue to hold well after today, but clarity on this "record" date is obviously important to those who expect to benefit from receiving the cap return and the div from having purchased today.

I think that the confusion lies in the "ex-div" date and the term "record date". The ex-div date means that as of start of business on that date the stock trades without dividend rights so every one who is a stockholder FROM start of business on that date has no rights to the dividend which will be paid to those who owned it BEFORE that date.

The "record date" does not mean that one is "recorded as being a stockholder as of that date. That is a different "record date". This record date means that by that date one is recorded as being eligible for the dividend hence one is not "recorded on the books as a stockholder" but as an entity to whom the dividend is payable.

Please correct me if I am wrong on this.
