I think that same sex couples have been accepted by our community for a long time. Also the so-called 'sanctity of marriage' has been flouted by heterosexual couples thousands of times - let's just mention the word 'divorce' - kids are the sufferers in these kinds of fall-outs. The only thing, really, which upsets me personally is about two men having a child of their own by going to a third world country and 'renting' a womb, to me that is a practice worse than prostitution and how you ever explain to a child how it came into being would be beyond my own capacity as a mother of three daughters, who all have their idiosyncrazies (as I call them) despite the fact they were brought up 'normal' and truly to the best of our abilities.
But 'Dysfunction' happens all around us - so lets get on with accepting that everyone has their own way of living and loving - and love we must, either sexual or simply with the warmth of a hug from a fellow human being, otherwise we go crazy.
I have had some dealings with homosexual people, who didn't parade their 'otherness', but were simply nice or interesting human beings to deal with -one of my bosses was homosexual and I even got to know his partner; I have probably met and known well 4 homosexual couples and 2 lesbian couples and all they seemed to want was that society accept their union as a union of genuine friendship and love; they were incredibly happy when accepted by a 'normal' person or couple and better friends you could not find.
I still think this whole kerfuffle about marriage is overdone, it really does 'piss off' a section of our community and it distracts our politicians from getting on with much more important tasks.
I do hope they restrict their discussions on that subject, otherwise I am going to be seriously p.....d off that they use this subject as a political distraction from issues which are 'too difficult' to tackle, namely governing our country.

Thanks for that Taurisk. I too agree that society has come a long way in accepting differences. I am also with you, in that while I'm not gay myself, I can empathise with this request and understand their argument.
