Yes I think it is clear that physical premise travel agents face stiff competion from WEB, FLT and TVL.

I've never been a huge fan of travel agents, always amazed me their hours, in recent times have opened up after hours a bit but basically I am most likely to be looking for flights after hours and wekends and they don't seem to cover those times. About the only reason I go to a travel agent is to get a brochure.

My wife had a recent instance where she went through her works "preferred" agent, got a price for flight and hotel she thought was ridiculous and got approval to go direct. She ended up getting flight for half what she was quoted and ended up in a 5 star hotel for cheaper than the 4 start hotel the agent recommended.

I've had an instance where I obtained a quote for a flight from one place and two other agents fatly denied such a routing was impossible when I shopped around (it wasn't because I ended up doing it!).

Not denying there are some great agents around but they are pretty thin on the ground, I cam only nominate once that I had an agent perform the sort of service above and beyond they claim they perform all the time.
