“China’s food safety laws are very clear and prohibit any use of products, which have exceeded their shelf life, for food production,” the complaint said, warning that China applied its regulations stringently in the process of issuing import licences for baby formula.
The factory workers were presented with a shelf life extension certificate bearing the signature of a representative of Synlait, the New Zealand dairy producer that supplied the base powder.
The whistleblower told news.com.au he was so astonished by this document that he initially believed it to be a forgery.
