Interesting topic WN, and possibly one of your better posts. I have been around for a long time and spent my younger days on a sheep station , now cattle. I was there when aboriginals were given their full citizenship rights and saw first hand the results of them moving into major towns. (The station owners could not afford to pay them the full wage that a white man was paid.) The result was devastating when they all moved into Onslow. At first there was a "camp" on the outskirts of town and eventually the Govt built houses in town (at a massive cost per house).
There were no jobs and alcohol took its toll both in violence and in poor health .
Those politicians in the south thought they were doing the right thing (as usual).
The real answer lies in education and jobs , real jobs.
Eric and his team have done some great things in this regard , however, it is not something the public is aware of. You will certainly never hear about it on the ABC . The story of BRU's hiring and training of TO's needs to be told. As does their approval of what BRU is doing and the fact that the TO's will reap enormous long term benefits.
