Of course it is manipulated. But good luck proving any illegality in it. Short selling is not illegal and neither is selling shares you own. The only thing that is illegal as far as I know is playing both sides of the same trade. But we all saw in the UBS announcement how many divisions they had spread their shares across. Others would be the same. All they have to do is claim different departments playing different strategies if anyone ever did look into it. ASIC wouldn't have a clue about how to go about unwinding this and fining people imo.
