Those in power such as Howard do however use that power to dumb down the electorate by not providing adequate education, by creating fear instead of inspiring courage, by censoring and nobbling public broadcasting services, by encouraging shock jock political spin as opposed to thoughtful analysis and so on.
An under-educated, fearful, uninformed, uncritical electorate of course will tend to vote for the manipulative co-ckroach already in power.
