It's 93-95% efficiency on an electric motor these days I believe.
ICE engine gets 14-17% or so, probably with turbo diesels being the most efficient.
There is no comparison in terms of overall energy use efficiency, a full EV blows ICE out of the water on
a direct usage comparison, but you must factor in the energy use for mining / building the batteries.
The lack of a drive-shaft is a huge advantage for an EV also.
It moves the pollution back to the power-plants where it belongs and can be controlled, where maximum efficiency is achieved for energy production, and gets the pollution off the roads where it doesn't belong.
Admittedly the grid has to be up to it, and many areas are not yet, and there are transmission losses, but it's still so much better than a
petrol-driven fleet ultimately, and Lithium recycling is a possibility which cannot be done with petrol.
