It doesn't matter whether you provided your TFN or not. I haven't given comsec mine (though they have it for the rollover fund and bank accounts anyway).
The ATO have powerful data-linkage software to link your details to their access to your CHESS database and other share registries. (A name and state plus either address, DOB, partners name (if joint holdings) or other info allow them to ID you with the same certainty as if they had your TFN. There is no way to avoid CGT on Aussie shares if you are an Aust. resident/citizen without large penalties (typically 2x amount avoided plus a penalty plus possible imprisonment for blatant offences). And using fake ID etc to trade shares is fraud -> go to prison, do not pass go.
