    Hi Taurisk,
I can relate to your situation. I would just like to mention a few things for you to consider. Security systems can fail...... power, batteries etc, although they can record images. They also have blind spots.
A dog has no blind spots and has hearing and smell of around 40 times better than ours........ reassuring, and are always on duty. I have had jack russells, rottys, dobermans and their crosses, staffies etc. The important thing is to get the most suitable type for your situation. Mastiffs are big. Staffies fight with dogs and are too friendly towards people etc. A great all round dog is a healer bitch like the one pictured above. They are tough as they come are happy to travel (they love vehicles) have good road sense and are also happy to just lay and wait for you. They are extremely trainable. I have travelled all over with ours and wouldn't leave home without her.
They are happy to fit in with your eating habits and will share anything without needing a special diet.
Bet you never get a vehicle stolen with a dog in it.......or a house burgled for that matter. Don't forget that dog owners live longer and suffer less stress!
The torch discussion from samcro is good and I would offer the nitecore mh 40 thor, as an alternative. Stainless steel bezel, waterproof to 2 metres has 5 modes with a SOS and stobe mode. The head is a more suitable shape for defence. They have two bigger cells instead of 4 smaller ones and can be recharged without removing the cells. The range is 500 metres but if you want more you could get the mh40 gt with 800m if required. 5 year guarantee, plus.
I'm surprised samcro hasn't discovered them.
Anyhow, I hope it all works out well for you.

    Lucky
