There is a long list of pre Christian witnesses listed in Hebrews ch 11. Then the Christians to whom the letter was written and by extension us were urged:
(Hebrews 12:1) So, then, because we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also throw off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
When Jehovah adopted Israel as his chosen nation he mention the role they were to play.
(Isaiah 43:10) “You are my witnesses,” declares Jehovah, “Yes, my servant whom I have chosen...
(Isaiah 43:12) “I am the One who declared and saved and made known When there was no foreign god among you. So you are my witnesses,” declares Jehovah, “and I am God.
Sadly as a nation they failed to live up to that privileged responsibility... Jesus however was an outstanding exception.
Thus he could rightly be described as a "faithful and true witness, " - Revelation 3:14.
