It takes a certain kind of person to make such claims and then deliver such claims with real conviction. There may or may not have been personality traits such as megalomania or psychopathic tendencies as seen with the likes of a great raft of American TV evangelists such as Benny Hinn and Kenneth Copland and others.
Rutherford was probably an alcoholic, those who knew him said he was very fond of whiskey and women. He built a mansion for himself claiming that Abraham, Moses, Samuel, David, Isaiah and other prophets were coming to live with him.
They did not of course and the poor fellow had to live there in waiting with several females to serve his dietary needs.
