Oconnem I agree there needs to be a presumption of innocence until proven guilty and that should apply to Pell. However , it does appear that some here are very selective on that score and wont extend the same presumption to people for whom they dislike whether due to politics or other issue.

I am a Christian and a Catholic and am appalled at the revelations that have come out in relation to rogue elements of the Catholic church and other religious and educational institutions. If the Church/institutions had not tried to cover up the evil actions of some of the Priests/Brothers etc the church would not be facing the massive backlash that is currently in play. Its those cover-ups that have brought the institutions themselves into disrepute. Had more been done by the Churches to bring the evil doers to justice they would not be facing the degree of contempt many have for them.

I recognise the church is now doing its best to prevent future occurrences and that is a good thing. Many parishes including the one I attend have safety officers whose task is to protect children in particular.
