Guessing you mean cash as in a bank term deposit .
But what if the banks go belly up due to home owners being unable to pay off their loans , and you only get 3o cents in the dollar out of your bank account as happened in Argentina in 2001 ?
Personally think unencumbered real estate is probably as safe as cash in the bank , but a mix of cash , shares and real estate (REITS) seems about right .
