I don't think there is anything discriminatory about people having to pay their way.
I have smoked on occasions but fully believe that smokers should be taxed more heavily. It would serve two purposes.
Firstly, the number of smokers would decline, and secondly, the tax per smoker would increase, thereby allowing the government to meet the massive health costs which smokers dump on the rest of us.
I have no sympathy for them, and as much as I think it would be desirable that the production of cigarettes or tobacco be banned, that is not going to happen, and so they if one elects to smoke, then one must be prepared to meet all costs associated with it.
Why should the rest of us have to pay to have our lungs damaged by smokers? Stuff 'em.
