The difference is the addition of hydrofluoric acid or fluorspar to the leach - not a catalyst but an expensive reagent. May not be enough to make the process a 'novel' deviation from L-max though.
As @tukebay said, the lawyers are the only winners at the end of the day- hopefully they do kiss and make up... and commercialise L-max.
