Piste, manufacturing will probably come back (it was starting to anyway), but jobs won't. The genie of automation is already out of the bottle and devouring jobs. As such it doesn't matter about subsidisation or local manufacturing.....hell if anything, manufacturing will probably decentralise so far as to be just a normal part of our everyday environment.
