One thing just occurred to me about cell powered transport, EV etc vs ICE, ( internal combustion engine ), in its entirerty.
That is the supply and storage of energy.
Oil requires vast infrastructure where almost every step of the process is dangerous and extremely vulnerable to terrorist or military attack or natural disaster, and is sourced largely from regions where such happenings occur from the oil well to the pipeline, refinery, storage, trucking/ shipping right down to the end user.
Once in the end users' possession it is still dangerous.
Lithium on the other hand?
It too requires plenty of infrastructure but I'm yet to learn that it is all that dangerous to mine and refine, is fairly benign regarding transportand storage, and once refined etc is then put into cells which will over time become safer and safer, right down to the end user.
Once in the end user's possession it is merely a repository for energy sourced from the grid, ( large scale or more and more often small to medium scale ), or from the home or whatever.
In this it just occurred to me that even many of the more oil rich states etc may move to battery power over gasoline, because they may well end up profiting regardless of the lost revenue from their oil dedicated to ICE consumption production, due to the natural offset of that with a lower outlay on state security and the increased business returns from activities such as tourism, agriculture etc, thanks to an improved security situation.
Not many people in Nigeria for example benefit at all from the immense wealth derived from oil but they most certainly pay the price for it in their environment and let's face it- an inactive/militant population could well cost more than the oil brings.
We all know that Europe imports a lot of oil so there is one market and China as well and never forget- India, ( I've heard there's at least one or two middle class families there ready to buy cars these days! ).
I guess many may have had a similar thought already but as this meeting was held in morroco, not far from a lot of oil and oil influence, if I may? Driving along in an electric vehicle filled with powerful representatives of nations etc in what is pretty close to the Middle East might have been a somewhat surreal experience for some of the passengers- and maybe a tiny window into the future, a future which might reward we strugglers here on hotcopper someday soonish
Gimme a 34 cent base next Monday/Tuesday and let's all keep it together till Wednesday!
Always remember- avagoodweeekend.
