Oh my .. I do feel your dilemma .. One's preferences and especially a wife with "academic qualifications" must be very difficult to absorb.
Just hang in there ... inwardly let go but include what is needed for this life .. then keep looking at the sky.
BTW if you or your wife are open to suggestions that illustrate the complete impracticality of theories of a "clinical psychologist" as regards anything to do with "higher questions" ... just let me know.
