Sorry, I can't answer your question in regards to cheaper than CFD spread, as I don't trade CFD's. I get charged 4.85 AUD per standard SPI futures contract, so 9.70 AUD per round trip. I day trade E-mini (ES) futures sometimes, but have not traded the mini (warrants) @h00ts was referring to. So basically, I only do futures via the exchange. The advantage for me is they are direct to market, the disadvantage is the margins are higher. During normal volatility, I am charged 3,750 AUD initial margin per contract during the day for full exposure to 133,550 AUD (SPI closing price of 5342 x $25) per contract.
