A bit simplistic there Klue. Trump ran in a previous election i believe. More relevant though he has been running marketing campaigns, doing sales his whole professional life and doing media. Its a natural evolution for him to front a campaign.
Running government and the sort of decisions required there he hasn't trained for. Ultimately his role is chief salesperson as President so he'll eventually find his feet, but it might be a wild ride for a time.
