well - you would need tax of some description - if it wasn't GST it would be something else - if it wasn't GST or income tax or company tax - it would be some other form of tax.

Someone has to patrol the borders, someone has to have health systems, someone has to provide safety nets, etc etc

and, some how - it all has to be paid for.

There will be many lessons to be learnt by societies over the next 50 years as human society changes like it has never done before - both in magnitude and speed - but, for the moment - India, along with other governments will need to learn one thing (although I don't think they are smart enough to learn the basic lesson).

Humans - including Indians - will ALWAYS use currency that is outside of government or institutional control -

in mental institutions etc. -------- the currency used to be - and most likely still is ------------- cigarettes.

If the Indians take away cash - the populace will just use gold for trade etc. - they love gold.

Governments live in a fantasy land sometimes where they think they can control everything - in fact - they often have very little control and run around like little hamsters on wheels trying to get that control.

If governments teach people that the government sets it's own rules to suit itself - people learn very rapidly that that is the game - so ------------ they set their own rules - to suit themselves - and, - bugger the government.

It is one of the strongest human traits ----------- people harden under bombardment - and, governments really would benefit if they learnt that.
