Instead of speculating about new prospective investors backing the company, one question (and I think it is a self-evidently logical question) that has never been answered is why doesn't the board approach some of its own major backers for additional funding?
It seems such an obvious solution to the company's funding needs and would surely remove the biggest overhang affecting the stock price.
